Photography, BA Hons

Studying BA Photography here was the worst decision of my life - waste of time and money. YR 1 lecturers are useless with no clue how to 'teach' students, really disappointing. Please choose another location. The location of the university makes a huge impact, Cornwall lacks a photography industry here. Studying in London would open more opportunities to make a connections in industry. This uni is run like a factory to make money with hardly any time to discuss work with the tutors at the weekly 15 min tutorials - unhelpful. The tutors have no understanding of how to 'teach' someone. The whole course lacked direction and clarity of expectations, guidance and support. There was a 1 hr lecture per week based on theory and dated humanity, dogmatic and baseless theories. I regret going here, it was an unstimulating course, The facilities are amazing and it was a huge draw for me, but the equipment and studios would need to be booked a month in advance.

Great studios and camera, although you won't be "shooting" non stop, there's a 6h-12 limit per week ...studios are always overbooked, cameras are always overbooked and good luck if you want to learn more on Photoshop or other programs... - of course the uni offers you a course in photoshop- just pay extra 140£;)

Animation & Visual Effects, BA Hons

By Unhappystudent On 10th December 18

The only learning we ever did in a three year course was self taught. I couldn't think of a more pointless three years. The teachers only care about themselves and don't deserve a paycheck. Stifling and uninspirational, Im worse off now than before I started. I've wasted time and money into a pointless course where I've learnt nothing and been emotionally beaten down by heartless lectures. DO NOT BOTHER GOING HERE IF YOU ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT GETTING AN EDUCATION OR HAVING JOB PROSPECTS.

Really good if you want to learn about animation and film as an art. Not really great for aquring specific skills.

Fashion Photography, BA Hons

By Honestfalmouthreview On 30th July 18

The course is great of you really want to go into Fashion Photography. While they like to make it sound like you can branch out and explore other creative paths they really won't help you much with that. Well they haven't this year. Though the staff and teaching style seems to be changing. Certain lectures have been unhelpful, condescending and at times rude. However there have been some that are helpful and very knowledgeable. I personally wouldn't recommend this course unless you're 100% sure you want to go into the fashion industry if you do you will thrive. However other creatives can feel limited. This being said the university has great resources and you can tailor the modules to your personal interests fairly easy. THERE IS LITTLE TO KNOW MODULE OPTIONS, I thought this would be more prominent in my uni experience but the course has been widely rigid and inflexible.

I can't fault this course. All teaching is professional but also enjoyable, the most tedious lectures are more interesting than I could ever imagine and the students on this course are all a family, regardless of what year.

Animation & Visual Effects, BA Hons

As much as we like to whine about the rise in tuition fees, this is one course where you will never feel cheated out of £9000 a year. The range and quality of software and equipment we have access to is unparalleled. Experienced and passionate lecturers have given me the building blocks I need, and have spurred me on to develop my knowledge and skills further and use them to create work that I can be proud of.

With the expansions to the course coming next year access to equipment should be great but while the tutors try hard and are great when you can get them, the doubled cohort size is really over stretching them.
