Was really good in first year, had lots of content and teaching time but it kinda feels like we've been forgotten during the pandemic

Paramedic Science, FDS

Started the first year 1 week later than other students. This wasn't communicated to us until 3 days before starting (frustrating already as I could have continued working for another week). 2nd lecture was cancelled due to the lecturer being ill. No cover was arranged & we were told this as we'd got there. Content isn't much more than what is covered in an access course. Anatomy, physiology & pharmacology lectures are typical 2-hour death by PowerPoint sessions full of spelling & grammar mistakes. The practical sessions consist of another PowerPoint presentation where information is given as a guide. We're frequently told that not every paramedic will agree that this is the correct way to do this.. Following the presentation, actual practical sessions are usually rooms set up with 4-6 CPR Annies where we're told to get on with learning the skill. There's a new, young lecturer who has a rather obnoxious & patronising "teaching style". Parking is poor and you have to pay. Food is dear.

There needs to be a fairer making system and teachers need to be more supportive.

This course at Coventry university is amazing. The staff have honestly made my university experience. The Lecturers really are the loveliest people you can meet, they're all passionate about the job. Furthermore, they're also from so many different areas of the job that it makes teaching so interesting. From paramedics who worked in London, to critical care, air ambulance and RAF. They all really care about the students and the subject they're teaching. The course is intense but so worth it. You get to have placement with one of the best Ambulance Services in the country (WMAS) which features on various TV series such as Ambulance and 999 on the Frontline. This course really is so worth it

Very poor University. Don't bother asking for support as you will be ignored. No academics to teach the course, just nurses moving into teaching. Lecturers not turning up to lecture and this is disguised as a 'schedule change. Bullying in placements and University turns a blind eye. Horrific experience as a student. Tied into the course due to the way they work out the funding so if you decide to leave, you'll be well out of pocket with no other course prepared to take you as the first year learning is poor. Avoid at all cost and consider a degree apprenticeship instead.

Adult Nursing, BSc Hons

Overall the adult nursing course needs improvement. There is very little support for writing assignments and the marking system is pure pot luck depending on who marks it. It is beyond abysmal. Adult nursing essays are marked inappropriately by children's nurses, learning disability nurses and any other available person regardless of whether they have been an adult nurse or not. The statements made through speech bubbles are often contradictory, sarcastic and rude, considering an essay has clearly been well researched and based on what has been taught in lectures. Nurses must practice evidence-based so the essay responses put in speech bubbles are opinion stated as fact. A student feels mislead and left with impotent anger at this ungoverned and unstandardized method of marking. It is a very unprofessional way of marking and does not inspire confidence in so-called experienced health professionals and it a profoundly grotesque, unfair and unjust marking system. Disgusting.

Course stated OK but towards the end, tutors started caring less and less and there is poor communication between the uni and WMAS placement mentors. Uni don't offer much support and leave you to fend for yourself. Overall, poor experience and would not recommend this course at this uni.
