We’ve made this choice a little easier by showcasing the best student accommodation in the UK.
How did we pick the winners?
We didn't.
We invited students from every university in the country to review their accommodation. The response was overwhelming - 10,834 students completed our accommodation review form.
What criteria did we use?
We asked students to review their accommodation against the following 7 areas, rating them each with 1 to 5 stars:
- Value for money
- Location
- Hall Management
- Cleaning
- Social spaces
- Social experience
- Internet / Wifi
The following 50 halls have achieved excellence across all 7 criteria. Keep reading to find out who the winners are and what makes these halls outstanding to live in.
Falkner Eggington - Loughborough University
Falk Egg, as it's known by students, boasts outstanding value for money and social experience. It is the largest self-catered hall on Loughborough's campus. Students consistently praise the 'community feel'. According to lboro.ac.uk, Falk Egg is "Budget accommodation fully refurbished to a high standard".

Best hall! Everyone mixes with everyone, there are so many people so you make so many friends.
St Regulus Hall - University of St Andrews
St Regulus Hall was built in 1880s as a hotel before it was acquired by the university in the 1950s. According to one student, Regs has the highest percentage of returning students of any hall in St Andrews. Perhaps it has something to do with the excellent location at Queen's Gardens.

Nightingale Hall - University of Nottingham
Nightingale Hall is one of the University of Nottingham's catered halls, which are an ideal choice for those who don't want the hassle of shopping and cooking. Located in the University Park Sports Zone, and boasting plenty of surrounding garden space, Nightingale has been said to be among the prettiest halls on campus, ideal for those summer BBQs. Students love the big rooms and the great location.

Josephine Butler College - Durham University
Josephine Butler is the home to approximately 600 students, each with their own ensuite study bedroom. The accommodation has its own bar and lounge which makes up the main social area of the college. Students have said that the bar and lounge are "...always a great place to find a friendly face" and this has lead to the place having an awesome social experience rating.

McIntosh Hall - University of St Andrews
McIntosh Hall was originally built as the Chattan hotel, and was acquired by the University in 1921. Situated less than a 5 minute walk from the students union and close to the main shopping area, students describe the location as ideal. One of our members said "The hall spirit is immense and making friends at Mcintosh is a guarantee." "...it's not just a home, it's family." Sounds good to us!

John Burnet Hall - University of St Andrews
John Burnet Hall is the smallest capacity Hall of Residence owned by the University but our members said "You'll struggle to find better community spirit than in JBH. It's small but it's like a family." Students that have lived here have praised the great location, great memories and the okay food.

Grizedale College is home to 605 students with various types of accommodation on offer. The college accommodation is one of the newer places on campus and our members love how sociable the place is. With a modern bar and outside seating and BBQ area what's not to love?

I can honestly say it is one of the best decisions I have made at Lancaster university. The large kitchen, lounge area really helps foster friendship.
Harry French - Loughborough University
Harry French is 200 metres from campus and one of the closest accommodations to both town and the students union. One of our members said "...It's one of the cheaper halls but you quickly realise it's a little gem...the social life and community spirit is unrivalled!" The rooms lack the luxury of an ensuite bathroom however our reviewers have said "...you will be glad you didn't pay extra for an ensuite, you just DON'T need it."

Stephenson Hall - University of Sheffield
Stephenson Hall AKA Stevo to its residents is one of Sheffield's catered accommodations. Our members love it here and the reviews suggest that what Stevo lacks in luxuries, it more than makes up for in memories. Situated walking distance from the Students' Union this place has huge social appeal. Residents make life long friends and end up not wanting to leave.

Best Halls in Sheffield...So sociable, people at the moment are all legendary.
Park Terrace - Newcastle University
Park Terrace offers self-catered flats and en-suit bedrooms. One of our members likened it to a 5 star hotel and said that "Park Terrace is both convenient and comfortable. There is great inter-flat interaction and the internet is more than fast enough." Located right next to campus, one reviewer said "...I can wake up at 8.55 and make my 9.00 lecture" making it ideal for the snooze users.

Likened to a 5 star hotel, Park Terrace is both convenient and comfortable.
Langwith College - University of York
Langwith accommodation is arranged in flats and houses boasting large social kitchens. Residents have said it has the "...traditions and spirit of an old college but with lovely modern accommodation." There is an onsite bar for social drinks with your roomies and all rooms come with a three quarter size bed so you can starfish until your hearts content.

Langwith is a home from home. The minute I arrived here I felt at home.
University College - Castle Walls - Durham University
University College. "It's a Castle, Need i say more." The college offers 33 shared twin rooms and 259 single rooms. This is a catered accommodation which offers 3 meals a day, 7 days a week. Meals are served in a hall which wouldn't look out of place in hogwarts. The accommodation is complete with a bar, lounge and games room which is said to have a great atmosphere and be the perfect place to make new friends.

St Salvator's Hall - University of St Andrews
St Salvator's Hall was originally built in 1930, and lies in a central, but quiet location. A 5 minute walk from the library makes it the ideal place to be during exam/revision periods. Known by our members as Sallies, it's said to have "...amazing views from its rooms; both to the sea and the gardens" and described as "...a beautiful, fun place to live."

Infinity House - Teesside University
John Snow has 225 en-suite, study bedrooms organised into flats of six. Each flat has its own shared Kitchen which our members have said "...are a great place to socialise with flat mates and friends." Facilities also include a range of social and other facilities including The Igloo Bar and a Games Room. Students love the free contents insurance and the central location near to the shops.

Stephenson College - Durham University
Stephenson College or Stevo to the locals, consists of 7 modern blocks of 6 flats, with 6 or 7 bedrooms. One of our members said "Stevo is an amazing place to live, it's so close to lectures that you can wake up at 8:50 and still be on time to a 09:00 lecture!" The main attraction here however seems to be 'Stevo Central'. A social area which includes a bar and games room where you can chill out and have fun with your new found friends.

James College - University of York
James College has arguably the best location of all the York Colleges situated "...bang in the middle of campus, close to the library, the gym and the sports pitches." Residents here love the social atmosphere, the "give-it-a-go ethos" which the college promotes and apart from taking a strong disliking to the resident geese, students love their stay at James.

St Pancras Way - University College London (UCL)
St Pancras Way. One reviewer said it's "...clean, big, and comfortable with well-equipped ensuite rooms." Situated just a 15 minute walk from UCL and right on the edge of Camden you get the best of the Bloomsbury and Camden amenities. With an awesome common room equipped with pool table and sofas are members say it provides the "...best social life on campus."

Trevs has recently undergone a major refurbishment, updating many of its rooms and facilities. It's a catered accommodation making it the ideal choice for those who lack cooking skills or those who just can't be bothered! Trevs is friendly because it is smaller than most other colleges, but it is not too small.
William Murdoch - Aston University
William Murdoch is centrally located on campus making it super easy for its residents to get to lectures. It also means it's close to the students union! Accommodation includes en-suite rooms as standard, free Wi-Fi and 24/7 security. It's a self-catered accommodation ran by Unite Students and they provide cleaners who not only clean the kitchens, but they clean your bathroom to! Ideal for the messy and non-messy student alike

St Christopher's Court - University of Derby
St Christopher's Court is home to 335 students and is conveniently located close to the local shops. Students have said that it's "...amazingly close to all campuses and easy access to and from town." These halls offer an outstanding social experience and the staff are said to be extremely helpful. There is even a resident cat named Socks!
· There's a Unibus stop literally on the doorstep (free Unibus transport included in the hall fees) .
· Events at the hall have included pool and table tennis tournaments, film nights, pancake stall and climbing wall.
· Students like the big rooms and the shower pressure and Wifi also get the thumbs up

Wessex Hall - University of Reading
Wessex Hall is set in attractive parkland, conveniently located on campus, next to a lake. The Hall features 202 rooms each with its own washbasin. It is the cheapest self-catered accomodation and our members all agree that "...you most definitely get a good deal." Facilities here include a library, common room, cocktail bar, and a cinema! A CINEMA! These facilities all contribute towards the amazing social experience.

Holland Hall - University of Exeter
Holland hall is a catered accommodation making it ideal for those, not so handy in the kitchen. It houses 360 students and provides each with their own en-suite bathroom. Our members say that "...the location is great, because we are just next to the sports centre and close to the main campus." There are great bus links into town but you would never be short of friends to share the walk with when living at Holland Hall.

Chancellors court is a modern, self catered hall with large, well equipped kitchens so you can cook up a real feast! Rooms come fully equipped with en-suit bathrooms, mini fridge, TV and computer. Our members say that "...the space you get is unbelievable." Located just a short walk from the campus and right next to a lake there's plenty of places to relax. William Morris - Loughborough University
William Morris, known to some as Bill Mo, is conveniently situated across the road from the Students' Union and only 200 metres from campus. It is home to 478 students with its very own student committee who work hard to keep things fun and sociable. Cleaners are provided for the communal areas and our members love the fact that the "...cleaners give biscuits if your kitchen is completely clean!"

Furness College. 9 blocks of student flats and home to 538 students. Situated on campus you're just a short walk away from your lecture halls and equally important, you're just around the corner from the students union. Our members have said "...it's the smallest college which gives us pride in being the college with the best community." The residents here love the social aspect of the college and feel that the 'block reps' really help to make settling in as easy as possible.

Cambrian Point - Cardiff University
Liberty Cambrian is home to 632 students. Located just a short walk from campus it's ideal for those who rely on their snooze button. Students here love the double beds, En-suite rooms and huge social area where you can chill out with your new friends. Cambrian point provides a social, fun filled atmosphere but residents say it's also nice a quite. The staff are described as extremely friendly, making your stay here all the more enjoyable.

The Quads - University of Bath
The Quads is a part-catered complex of five buildings, each with shared flats for eight to ten people. It is home to 708 undergraduates. Each room comes equipped with an en-suite bathroom, high-speed WIFI, TV and TV licence! Each social space is shared by two flats which allows you to meet twice as many people. One reviewer says "the social space/lounge area is honestly the best thing, I only go to my room to sleep!"

Norfolk Terrace - University of East Anglia (UEA)
Norfolk Terrace is an architecturally unique, Grade 2 listed building, located within some of Norfolk's beautiful greenland. It boasts a great social experience with flat sizes of 9-12 people and the bedrooms have a beautiful view over a lake. Lafrowda is home to a whopping 1257 students! It is close to Cornwall House with its social activities and open air swimming pool, and just a short walk to central campus. Cripps Hall - University of Nottingham
Cripps Hall is home to over 300 students and is one of the University's catered halls, located in the University Park North Zone, making it perfect for those who like to hit snooze. Our members love the look of the place, saying “Cripps is one of the prettiest halls, with a charming, old-fashioned appearance and Harry Potter-style dining hall.” Cripps offers large rooms with three-quarter-size beds and, as with all of Nottingham's catered halls, the hall puts on monthly social events to keep you busy.

County College - Lancaster University
County College is the biggest of the nine colleges, with the most diverse accommodation portfolio on campus. Located just a short walk away from the university, shops and bars you will never need to venture too far from home. Our members speak very highly of the social life at County praising the spacious social spaces. With woodland on one side and a huge piazza and grass on the other there is plenty of outside space for when the weather is cheerful.

New Bridge Street - Northumbria University
New Bridge Street is a modern building located adjacent to City Campus East. It provides students with en-suite bedrooms with double beds. This modern halls of residence contains 215 study bedrooms arranged in bright flats of eight with well-equipped communal kitchen area and spacious dining spaces. Only five years old this Hall is one of the newest and most in demand accommodations that the University provides. Just off Oxford Road it is not only conveniently located for the University, but also local shops and restaurants. Each room has its own en suite facilities and a double bed. One of our members said Denmark Road is "...really lovely and quiet" and provides a "...friendly atmosphere and great facilities."

Queen's Road Student Village - University of Winchester
Queens road is a purpose-built development with 399 en-suite rooms. Close to campus, shops, a gym and other facilities, the location is Ideal for students. One of our members said "Queens Road is an amazing accommodation! Decent sized, good kitchen space and such a sociable location. Wouldn't change it for the world!" "Royce is named after Sir Henry Royce, founder of Rolls Royce. The accommodation is located in the student village with 373 rooms which are fully catered for, Monday to Friday. Fylde College has been recently refurbished and offers a selection on fantastic facilities. Norwood House - University of Bath
Norwood House is said by one of our reviewers to be "...the best located accommodation at the University of Bath." With the Students' Union and a range of other eateries, bars and clubs, situated right beneath it, it's certainly a pretty vibrant place to live. Norwood House is a multi-storey complex of flats with room for 143 first year students. With decent room sizes and plenty of social space available, it's ideal for all students looking to make the most of uni life.

The Meadows - University of Essex
The Meadows is home to 648 students and is located near the peaceful River Colne, less than a 10 minute walk from central campus. Our members speak highly of the social atmosphere on offer at The Meadows, with one reviewer saying it's "...a great place to have a great time without the constant noise and interruptions of living right on top of the action." Bluebell is a popular first year undergraduate hall. There are 505 single rooms across four blocks, all with the added comfort of an en-suite and queen size bed. Fferm Penglais is home to a whopping 1000 students! Located immediately behind the award-winning student village, Fferm Penglais is within easy walking distance of the University campus and about a 15 minute walk from town. Keynes College - University of Kent
Keynes College has 650 bedrooms and is based on central campus, with some great views of Canterbury. Just a short walk from the shops and bars our members say "...Its the best located halls at uni."
